چکیده
TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl)-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (CNF) were assembled to fibrous clay sepiolite (SEP) by means of a high shear homogenizer and an ultrasound treatment followed lyophilization using three different methods: normal freezing, directional sequential combination both methods. Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) was grafted the foam surface vapor deposition method introduce hydrophobicity resulting materials. Both SEP addition (for freezing methods) refreezing preparation procedure enhanced compressive strength foams, showing moduli in range from 28 103 kPa for foams loaded with 20% w/w sepiolite. Mercury intrusion porosimetry shows that average pore diameters 30–45 µm depending on method. This large porosity leads materials very low apparent density, around 6 mg/cm3, >99.5%. In addition, water contact angle measurement Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) applied confirm hydrophobicity, which is suitable use as oil sorbent. The sorption ability these composite has been tested olive motor oils models organophilic liquid adsorbates, observing maximum capacity 138 90 g/g, respectively.

Surface Modification of Nanocellulose towards Composite Applications
The desire to develop high-value end-products derived from renewable resources is continuously growing as a result of environmental awareness and the depletion of fossil resources. In this context, nanocelluloses have gained great interest during recent decades owing to their renewability, abundancy and remarkable physical and mechanical properties. The aim of the present work was to investigat...
متن کاملA Nanocellulose Polypyrrole Composite Based on Microfibrillated Cellulose from Wood
It is demonstrated that it is possible to coat the individual fibers of wood-based nanocellulose with polypyrrole using in situ chemical polymerization to obtain an electrically conducting continuous high-surface-area composite. The experimental results indicate that the high surface area of the water dispersed material, to a large extent, is maintained upon normal drying without the use of any...
متن کاملSorption of Hydrophobic Pollutants on Natural Sediments
Ahtract--The sorption of hydrophobic compounds (aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons) spanning a concentration range in water solubility from 500 parts per trillion (ppt) to 1800 parts per million (ppm) on local (North Georgia) pond and river sediments was investigated. The sorption isotherms were linear over a broad range of aqueous phase pollutant concentrations. The linear part...
متن کاملSoy protein–nanocellulose composite aerogels
Organic aerogels based on two important and widely abundant renewable resources, soy proteins (SP) and nanofibrillar cellulose (NFC) are developed from precursor aqueous dispersions and a facile method conducive of channeland defect-free systems after cooling and freeze-drying cycles that yielded apparent densities on the order of 0.1 g/cm. NFC loading drives the internal morphology of the comp...
متن کاملHydrophobic nanocellulose aerogels as floating, sustainable, reusable, and recyclable oil absorbents.
Highly porous nanocellulose aerogels can be prepared by vacuum freeze-drying from microfibrillated cellulose hydrogels. Here we show that by functionalizing the native cellulose nanofibrils of the aerogel with a hydrophobic but oleophilic coating, such as titanium dioxide, a selectively oil-absorbing material capable of floating on water is achieved. Because of the low density and the ability t...
